Press Release || Escalation by the Regime Hinders Humanitarian Efforts

Sunday, December 1, 2024- For over thirteen years of displacement and suffering, returning home is a distant dream for many displaced families in Northwest Syria amidst ongoing conflicts and disasters.

Today, with the rapid developments unfolding in the region, with the Syrian regime escalating its airstrikes on various areas, hindering humanitarian efforts and endangering civilians.

On December 1, 2024, Syrian warplanes targeted Aleppo University Hospital, killing 10 people and injuring more than 20, according to initial reports. During the attack, an ambulance team supporting medical efforts inside the hospital was significantly damaged, rendering it out of service. This decreases the already limited emergency response capability in the region.

Later that day, at 4:07 p.m., the ambulance center in Idlib city was also targeted, causing another ambulance to go out of service, alongside severe material damage to the center. No coincidence, this is deliberate targeting of humanitarian infrastructure.

Despite mounting challenges, Violet announcing an expansion of its humanitarian response to meet urgent needs in the affected areas, including:

1. Field ambulance teams: Violet has dedicated trained ambulance teams and field volunteers for rapid intervention. These teams are equipped to handle emergencies, including evacuating the wounded and transferring the injured to safer areas. Already, they have evacuated more than 50 injured individuals in Aleppo and are also responding to the ongoing airstrikes in Idlib.
2. Meeting basic needs: Violet has deployed field teams to provide essential supplies such as bread and water and ready-to-eat food baskets in the coming days.
3. A long-term intervention plan: Violet is developing a humanitarian intervention plan covering various sectors to address the growing humanitarian needs and enhance the stability of returnees in affected areas and displaced communities.

Violet calls on the international community to ensure the protection of civilians and humanitarian workers and to support local organizations in areas currently responding to the escalation. It is essential to provide protection and humanitarian aid to returnees and displaced families without delay to prevent the worsening of the humanitarian crisis.
